Overview
Ready2Run is an award-winning language learning platform from Digital Learning Associates. The platform features a range of bespoke educational videos on different subjects and for different language levels. The series has won various awards including the 2019 ELTons Award for Innovation in learner resources
My Role
I was lead learning designer, writer and producer of over a hundred videos. The videos were a combination of original live-action content, which I managed and directed with a small production team on site in various locations, and archival content for which I was required to negotiate and acquire right for specific countries or regions.
Accompanying Learning Material Design
As well as creating the videos, I was tasked with creating the accompanying activities for teachers to deploy the videos in a classroom. The level specific lesson plans maximise on the language learning capacities of the videos and provide inspiration for teachers to adapt the videos to fit around a variety of courses.
Video-centred Learning Training
Working with various schools in London, I conducted workshops with teachers to improve how the Ready2Run course was deployed in the classroom. This required me to listen to teachers and understand the pain points they experienced when using video in their lessons. We then worked together to understand how we could overcome these issues and deploy the videos in classrooms with maximum impact. I also worked with teachers to help them adapt the video lessons to fit into different courses and age groups.
Personal Outcomes
Working on such a broad range of topics and overcoming a diversity of design problems enhance my ability to construct narrative concisely, spot engaging stories and channel them to enhance learning experiences for learners of all ages.
Working on Ready2Run over 5 years I have an developed an instinctual understanding of how to deploy audiovisual content to benefit learning, ensuring that it not only compliments, but adds a new dimension and depth to the learning experience.
