Overview
El Cuco, El Salvador is an area disproportionately effected by both outward migration and gangs. Azul community project works to improve their community through school projects, environmental education projects, as well as funding training and job creation.
This 8 weeks digital storytelling course provided English instruction through digital storytelling workshops aimed at providing basic media and language skills and instigating a sense of pride in the community.

Curriculum Creation & Facilitation
I worked with partners and supporters, including StoryCentre at Berkley, to develop a digital-storytelling course that would be applicable to groups of different ages, experience, and capabilities.
The course required me to conduct workshops in English and Spanish to a variety of learner groups. As curriculum writer, I also had to give training to other project teachers.
Outcomes
The eight-week course resulted in the production of individual 'digital stories' for the participants. The films were screened to the community and the 'digital storytelling club' continued beyond the timeframe of the project.
Participants said they felt empowered to tell their stories and now felt like their stories mattered.
